monty mole - montrose fc mascot (16/05/12)
In February Montrose Football Club ran a competition to design a club mascot. The competition ran until the end of March and when the judging took place (of over 800 entries) the winner was announced as 7 year old Owen Porter a Primary 3 pupil at Lochside Primary School. Owen (pictured left) was mascot for the last game of the season and met the players before hand with his two guests.
It was felt that it was something that the club was missing and Monty Mole will now appear on the club website, on matchdays and inside the club programme and on any other relevant items released by the club. It is also hoped that Monty Mole can be turned in a matchday mascot and the club is actively seeking a sponsor. Anyone interested can speak with Glynis Crawford on 01674 673200.
players released (16/05/12)
Montrose Football Club have announced that they will not be offering new terms to goalkeeper Michael Andrews (pictured left), defenders Jonathan Smart and Sean Crighton, midfielders David Dimilta and Steven McPhee and striker David McGowan. Goalkeeper Michael, a Scotland Under 21 joined the club in the summer from Falkirk but during the course of the season lost his place in the side to Sandy Wood. Smart was a major signing for the club last summer from East Fife, the former Third Division Player of the Year never really settled at Links Park and was sent off four times during the course of the season in making over thirty appearances. Gourock based Sean was the longest serving player at Links Park having joined in late June 2009 on a two-year deal from St Mirren. He originally joined Montrose on an emergency temporary transfer from St Mirren. He was a well liked player at Montrose and made over 100 appearances for the club the last coming on the final day of the season against Clyde in the 5 – 0 win. Glasgow based winger Dimilta arrived at Links Park in June 2010 from Arbroath but managed only two starting appearances in an injury hit season. Fellow midfielder McPhee was in and out of the side in the early part of the season before having a two month spell on loan to Dundee Downfield. Normally used as an impact substitute McPhee scored his only goal for the club on the opening day of the season against East Fife. His final appearance also came against Clyde. Twenty three year old striker McGowan was also used mainly as a substitute but did manage two goals in his 11 + 6 appearances for Montrose against Peterhead and Clyde. Montrose have also offered new terms to club captain Douglas Cameron who only missed two games last season due to suspension. No virus found in this message.

FIVE RE-SIGN (06/05/12)
Since the last home programme manager Ray Farningham has been busy resigning players for next season on one year contracts.
The five signed are goalkeeper Sandy Wood, defenders Stephen McNally and Paul Lunan, midfielder Jamie Winter and striker Garry Wood. Those five join the previously signed Martin Boyle, Lloyd Young, Scott Johnston and Alan Campbell.
Lunan said: “I’m happy about it [signing a new contract], I just hope we have a better year next year.”
Winter added: “I’m chuffed that it’s all sorted. We’ve been speaking about it for a while but with the games coming thick and fast it was just finding the time to sit down and sort it out.
“A big factor in me wanting to stay on was that we’ve got the makings of a good team and we’ve done good performances but the table doesn’t lie.
“Fingers crossed that it will be a better season.”

montrose 5 clyde 0 (06/05/12)
MONTROSE finished the season on a high, sending Clyde back to Cumbernauld with a heavy defeat.
The home side dominated throughout, with a Martin Boyle hat-trick the highlight. Boyle opened the scoring in the 20th minute, controlling Stephen McNally’s pass and flicking the ball over visiting goalkeeper Nick Feely.
Division Three’s top goalscorer added his and Montrose’s second four minutes before the break, Lloyd Young playing the ball into the box and Boyle applying a low finish.
Montrose’s third goal came nine minutes after the restart, a corner falling to Terry Masson and the midfielder lashing a shot inside Feely’s right-hand post.
Centre back Alan Campbell contributed the fourth, heading in off the post from a Dougie Cameron corner.
The fifth also came from a corner, Boyle completing his hat-trick with a neat header.

From the Boardroom (05/05/12)
Yet another season finishes today when we entertain our rivals, Clyde, where a win by Montrose will ensure we finish above Clyde in the league. It is a big game with much pride at stake not only for the clubs but also for players who wish to finish on a "high". It is sure to be a tough encounter with our rivals determined to win however, I am sure we will be extremely motivated and prove to all supporters what a good side we are.
This season has been very frustrating with the team playing excellent football yet somehow not taking the many chances created and allowing soft goals to be conceded. It is evident from the goals against column this season there is a need to stop leaking goals and I am sure the management team will be determined to review this area prior to next season.
In spite of our league position I am particularily grateful for the principal sponsors who have supported the club during the season with thanks to Fotheringham Property Development, Murray Taylor, Intervention Rentals and Duthies of Montrose. My thanks also to the many other local companies, too numerous to name, but may I take this opportunity through the programme to sincerely thank you for your assistance and support.
I am very grateful to our commercial team who are creating a full programme of events for supporters. These are all highlighted on our website so please aim to join us and make the events successful.
Our local schools recently took part in producing a mascot for the club. After receiving over 800 entries the winner was Monty MOle by 7 year old Owen Porter, a pupil at Lochside School. Owen has been invited to today's match where a full sized cardboard cutout of Monty will be displayed prior to and at half time. I hope you will enjoy our mascot leading the club to many victories in the seasons ahead.
In thanking people it would totally remiss of me in failing on behalf of Players, Management and Directors to thank the great support we receive at all games whether rain, hail or shine. We look forward to meeting you all again for season 2012/2013.

Thanks again and enjoy today's game.

elgin city 2 montrose 1 (01/05/12)
Elgin City Football Club clinched their place in the second division play off with victory over Montrose at Borough Briggs on Saturday. It was no more than Ross Jack’s side deserved in what was a fairly low key performance by Montrose coming on the back of their two 3 – 1 home victories. Montrose now go into Saturday’s final home fixture of the season against Clyde looking for the victory that will clinch them eighth place in the table for the second successive season..
